Where to Look in Perth for a series 1

Hi all ever since we brought home the new 90 we have been thinking of getting a series 1. Then surprise I went to a mates place Jaybo (member) and he has aquired 2 series 1's and now a new 90. after my motorcycle adventure a couple of weeks back up the Gibb River road i have come to realise that i need a more sedate pastime and something other than bikes to fiddle with in the shed. I am keen to find a restorable series 1, there have been a few for sale but I missed out working away.

Ps .Love to get me hands on that grey ute out at Andamooka.

    Hi Mike,

There are plenty of series ones in WA you just need to look in the right place. I have four of the bastards and have found at least 8 in the past year. Everything from 1949 to 1958 models are available.

    What are you looking for?

    80", 86" / 88", 107" / 109"...

Let me know what you're chasing and I'll keep my ears peeled.

    Cheers,

    Andy.

    Anything realy

    Hi Andy,

We thought of getting an 80 originaly but i wouldn't pass up a longer wheel base if it was a good restorable prospect. I have found 2 restored for sale one in Perth on trading Post and another in Warwick Qld on Ebay that is a brand new rebuild but they put a holden 186 in it. We like the idea of having a vintage car that is still quite usable although we have the new 90 for long trips and serious off roading . we read the story of the series 1 club crossing the simpson a few years back and we like the idea of teamimg up with others for similar adventures. Im a 58 model myself so that year apeals to me but its not that important .

If you come across anything let me know.

    Doing some research

The more I read about them the more i want one. I joined the series 1 club online and read about the history of early Australian models 004 etc. definatly want an 80 after reading the history and a 48 would be nice. does anyone know who owns the one for sale in Perth on trading post .

    Mike,

I don't want to burst your bubble but you may have missed the boat in regards to buying a 48, of the five that came to WA only three are known of. They are very rare and increasingly sought after. There is also a responsibility to do any 48 model 110% accurate, so any rebuild will be costly and time consuming.

The later 80" models 1949 & 1950 retain the same looks as the 48s but are more common and have a range of improvements over the first 1500 vehicles.

This would be a better way to start your series one ownership and maybe upgrade to a 48 later if the opportunity arises.

Ps you won't find one on trading post, I do know of later 80" vehicles around the place.

The one on the Trading Post is a '55 or '58 and will be a 86". I might play with my 86" '55 a bit this weekend Mike, and see what my thoughts are. I might be tempted to pass it on so I have some money to spend on the 80" '50. I'd have to decide that before I get the 200sqm shed built though! There'll be plenty of room to keep it then.

I'd love to get my hands on a '49 chassis to drop my '49 sideplate engine into. That's about as close to owning a '48 as I'm ever likely to get! I can live with having my '49 engine in my pretty mint '50 chassis though.
