rust on new engine

heres a pic of my new defer - only 200kms...
not happy with the rust forming on these parts - whats the go?

now i gotta spray it with sump oil

The new Puma's seem to have a lot of unpainted metal parts on the engine. Mines had that same rust since new - I reckon it's a cost saving to not paint it, they'd sell it as a weight saving/fuel saving measure.

If it's any consolation those parts are going to wear out or break long before they rust through..

I wouldn't worry, Especially since that is the fuel rail, it is about 8mm thick to withstand 10,000psi or thereabouts

So, as Bb says above, the fuel rail gets replaced quite often after a bout of contaminated fuel etc.

I detail my engine bay every couple of months and give this a spray with silicone or whatever i have at the time. It hasn't got any worse but I to am anoyed that they couldnt bother to paint it.

Ahhhh so it is normal by the sounds of things. I was asking about this in another thread, just picked my new Deefer up on Friday and was shocked to find that rust under the engine bay

I'm going back to dealer, I'll let you know their response.

Remember they travel 10000 miles by sea!................and Solihul does nothing not specified by LRA.

Remember my new 97 D1, couldn't touch anything underneath or away from the "visible" engine without being covered in black very tacky crap. Methinks clean is better, at least you can see what is going on and do something about it.

Travelling by sea doesn't do it...

I was out in a car with 29 miles on the clock yesterday and it too had rust on the fuel rail. As I said, all of them do it.

Ahhh so they only 1/2 detailed the car.
Back in the early 90's I worked at a holden dealership and the barina's (suzuki swift 4door)
Where selling fast so we where desperate for one to show a couple for a test drive. We grabbed a new arrival that still had the plastic on the seats and import stickers on the window to take for a drive. When we got back smoke was pouring out from under the bonnet and car as it had not been detailed yet and all the imported cars in the 90's had a layer of wax/protection gloop to stop the rust on the way over. Now I think a lot of brands have moved away from that.

engine block is made on CAST IRON.....

so is similar to the stainless steel....


the block produce a cover on passive oxide not more!!!!!

Not corrosion!!!
