    300tdi exhaust mods

Hi all. I've spent over an hour trying to find any threads on exhaust mods to suit a 300tdi with no luck, trying to save me asking. but since I'm failing, I'll ask: any suggestions on a exhaust with the hope of a bit more power? Also thinking about ceramic coating the manifold and heat wrapping the pipe. I have an Allisport double core intercooler (yet to be fitted) and with a pump tweak I'm hoping with these 3 mods to get a wee bit more oomph out of my Def 110. Cheers.

are you planning to do a dyno before and after the exhaust mod???? with just an exhaust change i am not sure you will notice a power increase.all three mods will make a difference

i have a striaght through system.....no muffler or resinator, the pipe is the smae size as OEM. i have a bit of flex fitted 300mm or so from the dump pipe, this has failed about 3-4 years after fitting.

i did notice the turbo spools alittle quicker, increase cabin noise esp. when pass rear window is down and you are travelling down a freeway with noise barriers

i did have dynos done....not really to see the power increase (seceretly i did did until) i learnt that monitoring the exhaust gas ratios is probably right up there when increasing fuel for a tourer

if i did it againi would consider keeping the resinator at the back

I have an allard full front intercooler and allisport radiator with a mtq watercooled turbo[300tdi], last mod was 3inch pipe including dump with 1 muffler in the centre, after the exhaust it boosted and revved much faster but needed the injector pump tuned again and goes way better, i would definately reccomend the 3inch pipe, its no noisier and really lets the engine breath but as with every add on mentioned the injector pump needs to be tuned to suit

I've had it on a dyno, a massive 34.4 hp with 104 ftlbs, not very impressive. it had 285/75 muddies on as I wanted to see it's power (giggle) as set up for 4wding. so I'm hoping with the Allisport double core I/C, injector pump tweak, which I'm yet to do, plus an exhaust, it will make a bit more power. I'd really like to go diesel gas, but financially it's outta my reach. I've spoken to an exhaust mob, who said go 3 inch the whole way, and I spoke to a turbo specialist that said go with a 3 inch off the turbo to let the gasses expand, but then not to go bigger than a 2 1/2 as the engine just isn't big enough to warrant it. so I'm curious to see what other 300tdi owners have done to up the ponies. very keen to see the difference heat wrapping/ceramic coating would make too.

due to cracking of the original centre muffler I replaced it about 2 years ago with a hotdog. As part of a recent clutch change I inspected the inside and found all the littler holes almost fully blocked with soot. So in the future would just replace with a straight piece of pipe.

The change to the hot dog did make a difference on my specific test hill and it does pull a bit better. Removing the rear muffler/resonator would be the next step but it is still original nearly 20 years later. Change when it breaks.

I replaced the center Muffler with a straight pipe insert, kept the rear resonator, All done about 10yrs ago. Still all original size as I wanted stock off the shelf availability. The first thing I noticed was easier takeoffs, both loaded and empty. The noise factor? Its a TDi! Any extra noise is drowned in road noise and injector rattle,if any is game enough after that the wind whooshing in front vents and around the aerodynamic like public convenience design cab takes care of it
Dought it made any difference to fuel, But certainly to spool up and on hills.
    Cheers Scott

I'm buggered if I know why those photo's aren't showing, so here's some more.
The last one of the dump is prior to it being wrapped five years ago.
