    98 110 gearbox now won't self centre

    Hi all,

    Any help muchly appreciated.
Just on a drive home and 'POP' gearbox won't self centre now. Guessing a spring has let go but where in the depths will i find it ?? I have had the box out recently when my clutch went so i am relatively familiar with it.

Still drives fine and selects fine.........when i find the gear.

    Thanks in advance.

    Gearstick centralising

    G day
My 03 Discovery TD5 did the same recently. Fairly sure the box is the same.
It had two springs located on the very top of the box under the boot. I ordered both springs thinking if one had failed I would change both. Turned out that the springs sit over a flimsy piece if sheet metal to load them. This had cracked through allowing the spring to loose tension. Welded it back up, all good. Ten minute job to swap out the springs if you have to.
    Hope this helps. Regards Chris.

    found and fixed

ok 10 minute job and fixed.
pic mite help anyone with a future issue.
Was a small pin on the right hand side of the bottom ball that pushes on the spring.

On that note anyone have any idea what type of gearbox this is?? was told today that my VIN suggests it could be one of 2 types for these models, hence me pulling it apart to get the part out to show the parts guys to order it, lucky now I've saved some bucks

Take any pics when you had the box out recently? If so please post them to aid in identifying the culprit.

Sadly this is the only pic i took as i was in a mad rush and had to do it by myself. Did it where it lay from the tow truck, out wed morn, back on the road thurs arvo. Let just say ratchet straps, a couple of metal bars and the access holes in the body were my friends getting it back up and in by myself. $490 tho for new extreme HD clutch inc thrust bearing and centring tool. Much better than the box i thought i was up for
