    Insurance

Speaking to my insurance today about the additions to the Car they enquired where i was going, i mentioned Cape York, they then steered the conversation to stipulate that my insurance only covered registered roads and tracks and not any off road trails, tracks etc that not covered by the local/state/fed authority.

Anyone come up with this one before ??

Yes, but I have never had a 4WD claim - but this is common. There are several 4WD insurance companies out there. I will try and look up who I used to use, on my old 4WD.

Edit: You should see their reaction with mods on your 4WD - lol - I had NRMA cancel my policy on the spot once - great customer service !

Most insurance companies cover you as long as you are travelling on a Gazetted road.
I insured with Shannons so I would be covered 'anywhere' in Aus not just on Gazetted roads and also for anyone who drives my vehicle anywhere!
Extra's on the vehicle are covered too.

Zilch, I use suncorp and they cover for any location in Australia. Doesn't matter where I am but... I am not covered if I have signed a waiver for entering a location. I.e a 4wd park.

When I was looking last year a few of the bigger guys do this. I made sure that it's written as a clause in my agreement but I know I am covered 100% if I am at the cape say or across the Simpson.

Tor i mentioned the "additions" to the car, rather than mods the are cool with it as long as there is no engine performance modifications.

As the OL bar is certified, the Snorkel is actually a LR product and the rest is mainly underneath body protection i do not foresee any problems, i even put it in writing to them via email as they suggested so they have it on file.

    Thanks

My old car was significantly modified - body lift, suspension lift, large balloon tires, air lockers front and rear, etc ,etc, etc - Trust me it was so modified it featured in a well known magazine and got front page. I don't mean the basic mods.

If I remember ARB used to sell insurance for 4WD, but not on their web anymore !

But I didn't go with them - let me go into my old files & get back to you. Searching the Web - it seems AAMI now cover 4WD - I also need to ring to get appropriate cover.

I asked specifically when I took out a policy with Youi for my Disco, their answer was that I was covered anywhere within the shores of Australia. The sole proviso was that the terrain had to be within the manufacturer's listed capabilities for the vehicle.

GIO cover anywhere exclusion is rally and time trials.
If you have a novated lease often their insurance only does gazetted roads. But then again it also only covers lease payout amount too.

Yes AAMI cover 4WD all over - except if you do racing and related mods.
But got a quote at 1,440 per year.

Got a quote from Commonwealth bank for $874 per year, identical cover - just need to check the PDS to make sure I am really covered.

Will post the other details tomorrow for u.

    Hope it helps
