Consider buying a 2014 D4 with 165k on the clock?

Hi all. I'm a newbie to this forum and am seriously considering buying a Discovery 4 in the not too distant future. I'm looking at second hand primarily, just because brand new is a bit pricey. Would you consider buying a 2014 build with 165,000 on the clock? It's a lot of mileage and I'm wondering whether it's too much even if they're mostly country kms. The price is reduced due to the mileage, but I'm not sure if it's enough. It's a TDV6 and the asking price from a dealer is $50k excluding on road costs. Any thoughts?

My biggest thing would be transmission service at 100k km or before. (And maybe a second)

The diesels are also due for timing belts at 168k km which AFAIK is a BIG service (i.e. thousands of $$)

The front control arms can also wear the bushes out by then too.

Its all standard at those kms. Just do your research so you know all about it!

    Cheers

    its a baby

I'm at about 330000 and still going well (D3 2005) Maintenance is needed so factor that in to the negotiations but do not be afraid of caring for it as if you do doubling the clock is highly likely IMO.

Get the dealer to include the timing belt change (both belts) and serpentine belt, done prior to pick-up.

Thanks for the advice Graeme. Would you expect them to include that in the advertised price or would they want me to get that done myself? It's not at a Land Rover dealership, rather a "prestige" used car dealership.

Thanks for the reply Stuart. Won't it be out of warranty anyway due to the 165k mileage, and therefore the possibility of an extended warranty is off the table?

You would have to get them to agree to include it in whatever price you offer and they would send it to a dealer or specialist LR workshop to have it done. In reality probably just use that its almost due as a reason to knock $5K off the price, not that it would cost that much to have it done.

Oh yeah, ha. Thinking well at 3am. We bought our 2010 RRS with 176000 kms - clearly done it's fair share of towing too - and it's been pretty much the story above in terms of replacing most of the suspension and associated bushes (only front struts left to go!), and servicing the auto which made a big improvement to the smoothness of changes. The batteries in these things often only last a couple of years too, though you'll have a hard time getting a new one from the dealer.
We got the car for the right price to pay for all that extra ($47k) think the hardest part has been finding a mechanic I like, trust and can afford!
