    DA6506 Defender Rear AC

Just found this on the Britpart Catalogue today (other part number for later models).

Land Rover Defender 110 130 300TDI TD5 RHD Rear AIR Conditioner KIT Part DA6506 | eBay

and here's a cheaper one, but the ebay one had more photos.

Rear Air Conditioning Kit RHD (Britpart) Defender 110/130 300Tdi & Td5 - DA6504 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

If there's a Brexit, the price in $AUD may drop

I spoke to the manufacture and its likely my exbox would have to removed, which is a pity.

    Hi Tombie,

Can you point out where that thread is? I'm curious if it's worth the expense and trouble.

I've actually been thinking about this and won't it cause more noise than usual as you have another blower right beside you? I think a kit that goes all the way to the cargo area should be the go since you can cool the air both in the front of the cabin and the rear. I was told by my A/C guy that the compressor is big enough to support two cooling coils so it should be possible.

    Thoughts?

Well. Funny you should say that!
There IS a kit that mounts at the very back and blows forward.
Mounts above the rear door across the back!

I doubt I still have the link though.

I don't know about a kit, but I've replaced a bulkhead on a 200tdi 110 with a factory rear AC setup. One compressor; two condensers (one lying down under the fan cowl), two fan/evaporator units (one behind the passenger's side rear wheel feeding a line of outlets above the rear door) and air con pipes everywhere. I could dig up photos if there's interest, but it's not something I'd encourage replicating.

I've got that kit in my shed!

It came off a Darwin tour operators 110. The evaportaor fits in the LHS rear quarter panel and a square plastic tube folows the left rear corner of the cargo bay up to a plastic housing that sits snuggly across the back panel of the roof (over the back door & windows) and has 4 vents blowing forward.

The system T - pieces off the front A/C, it comes with it's own control panel. All the wiring and pipes are included, but some sections of pipe may need to be replaced, as it's been sitting for awhile. Either way, they can serve as a template.

I've got a water tank in the LHS quater panel and my cargo area is packed to the ceiling on a trip, so it's no use to me.

It's a mates, who doesn't want it. I tried selling it for him, but couldn't find a buyer. If anyone wants to make an offer PM me.

One aulro member I met in the NT had fitted an underdash evaporator from an old F100 Ambulance to his cargo barrier. It was so good, he said he'd turn it on for 5mins to cool the car and then switch it off again.
Those underdash evaporators are avaialble new for about $300, so I'm toying with the idea of fitting rear air to the 110. I figure under $1K for brakets, bolts, pipes, gas, drier etc.

I'm definitely considering a supplemental A/C unit as it's pretty sweltering in these parts and A/C is a must when traveling lest you fancy driving around in your own personal sauna.

Or you could get the roof mounted Red dot as another choice. Pat
