Transmission harsh engage/disengage when power applied

Hi so I have had the D3 for one month now and have already enjoyed not some of the legendary expensive landrover experience. While driving my car in traffic there is a soft thunk sound which I hear and feel when I apply power and to a lesser extent when when I take my foot off of the accelerator. I do not have any of the other gearbox problems commonly reported on the forum-the gears change smoothly and it does not slip or shudder. The experience I have reminds me of older automatic gearboxes in hi mileage vehicle from the 1970s and 80s . It certainly is not what I expect from a modern gearbox used in some prestige vehicles. When I bought the vehicle I had it serviced by an indie recommended on this site. The service included ALL fluids changed the steel sump pan for the gearbox- part of the $$$ landrover experience. I discussed the soft thunk with them -no help. Note I am happy with the service provided. Is this noise typical of the disco? 2007 SE TCV6 auto.

I would say yes. Have spoken to others and they have it to some extent. Frustrating in many ways given the overall design of the vehicle.

The transmission was replaced in mine before I bought it (new unit) and this serviced at 60K km and has done 20K km since.

If the fluid in the transmission is not Lifeguard 6 that will be the cause of your troubles. It is one of the symptoms I had when the cheaper Nulon was put in.
