    Upgrading Puma Air Con

Driving around in the sun and heat yesterday I had a thought.... The air con of my Puma works quite well, blows cool and doesn't take too long to get there, the biggest problem is that each passenger only gets the one vent and it is in the centre of the car. The result is we normally have one side of the body comfortable and the other warm.

In Newcastle and a lot of other parts of Australia there probably isn't much need for the vents on the side of the dash that help de-mist the side windows and with the AC switched to de-mist there is actually a bit of airflow coming out of them. Has anyone thought about or tried to connect these vents to the same ducting as the centre vents? I imagine there isn't a great deal of room behind the dash so just curious if anyone else has tried before I pull my dash apart.

There is a bit of a gap between the dash and the window too so there would even be a possibility of 3D printing a forward facing vent to clip onto the side of the dash.

Here is an image of behind the dash (LHD from defender2.net)

Can see the side ducts are part of the windscreen demister moulding... You could theoretically tap into the centre ducts with another hose connected to the side mister vents but not sure how much pressure you'd get through it.

Suppose you could also maybe tap into the foot ac vents with a house going straight up? Again - not sure how much you would actually get out the vent but then at least you could leave it on head and foot AC vents rather than all demister...

You might be better off just modifying the 3d files from this

To pipe outwards and forwards which would then reroute over to the sides? Much simpler me thinks...

If you have a printer have a play id be interested to hear results (whilst considering getting a printer myself)

I've though of doing this myself. I would be taking from the centre duct as there is way too much air coming from these vents, but how to get it to thee side and then how to direct it at the passenger / driver ?

Not the answer you were looking for but is a simple mod that works for me.

I stuffed two sponges into the ducting of the fixed center vents blocking them altogether. This gives me much more cool air coming from the two vents I can control the direction of
