Limp mode and Fuel Filter Sensor

Hi All,

I completed a fuel filter change on my LR3 2.7 this week and the sensor O Ring didn't seal on the fuel filter. I'm assuming because the fuel filter is out of spec, even though I ordered the same part number and brand I previously purchased.

I had a hesitation issue and decided to fit the new filter without the sensor to test. On the test run the hesitation was gone but once I put my foot down and dropped back a gear the car went into limp mode with a big F on the dash.

Once I crawled back home I connected the sensor to the loom without installing it into the filter and cable tied it up, as so not to lose it. All ran fine and no limp mode.

My question is, is it just the sensor not being plugged in or should I be worried about something else? Possibly air in the line from the filter change?

I had the sensor wire removed by my Indy last time they did a service as they reckon there are problems sometimes with faulty sensors rather than actuall water in fuel. There was no issue driving without the sensor but when water got into the connector it displayed a water in fuel error. I've since added the sensor.

Any air would have bled out within 30 seconds of turning the key, so it's not that. The sensor provides a warning, but that warning shouldn't put it into limp mode. Additionally, whether the sensor is plugged in, or not plugged in is irrelevant if there is no water in the fuel, so it shouldn't be that. If you have the sensor connected but not in the filter, the next drive through a decent sized puddle is likely to give you a "water in fuel" warning. It's quite sensitive.

Really need fault codes to look any further.
