Just found and purchased my first Series 1

Gidday all,

Whilst not new to Land Rovers - ex military, ex owner, I am definately new to the Series 1.

A few months ago I contracted Viral Encephalitis and nearly died. I still have quite a few after effects. My rehab team have been trying to get me to do projects which will get my technical and organisation and planning abilities back on some sort of even keel.

Well, last week I came across this old series 1 Landy which was virtually complete although not going ('55/86) and I thought "well why not?" I have always had the Bay to Birdwood on my "bucket list".

So I shelled out what I thought was reasonable bucks and here I am - the proud(I hope) owner of a restorable Series 1. I suspect I am going to need a LOT of assistance from the group as my Brain Injury can be a real problem at times in terms of organisation and visualisation but it is the sort of project I need to get the grey matter working properly again. it will also make me relearn how to use the shed full of tools and equipment which is sitting idle these days.

Hope to get to know more of you as this "project as therapy" moves foreward

Congratulations. I hope it helps with your rehabilitation and I also hope you find it enjoyable.

As Garrycol said if you can get any pictures for us we'd love to see them.

G'day and thanks for all the kind thoughts,

I am already thinking "what insanity possessed me to do this?"

First problem is going to be identifying the vehicle. Some bloody idiot has removed the ID plate! I know it is S1 '86 but not much beyond that from the various features. Where do I find the chassis number? Is there a register of chassis numbers? The motor looks like an original 2Litre, and I am told they are close to bullet proof.

I will get some "before" pics soon. It is more of a mess than I expected as someone has painted it blue with a very worn paint brush.

The chassis number should be stamped on the chassis somewhere, not sure on a S1, but Lotz-a-landies in particular may be able to help.

I would not describe the engine as bullet proof , but it is fairly tough, although it can develop a lot of problems if neglected over a long period, and can give all sortys of relatively minor problems, often more as matter of being over fifty years old than anything else!

On the left front chassis rail around the area of the bumber bolts if you wire brush away you will see the number there, its right at the fron tof the right, mines just below the spring hanger mount
