    Series II odd wheel

My '58 SII 'spares car' has one odd wheel rim.

Four rims are ROK Australia 23160, which I think are the same as my '56 SI. The odd one is a ROH Australia (same company but a name change from memory) AYG 8038 (the 0 looks more like a backwards letter C). Is this from a later SII or SIII ?

All rims have 7.50 tyres fitted but I have a feeling the widest section on the 23160 was 7.00, can anyone confirm.

    Thanks, Colin

    That rim is a 5 1/2" from a very late series 3.

    You're correct the 5" 231601 should have 7.00 as a maximum.

Judging by the raised circular section of the rim that joins the stud holes, I would suggest that it is a rim for a post SIIA vehicle. Which post SIIA vehicle I don't know, as they are not my speciality. I would go with the previous post's advice.

Thanks Diana & Aaron, looks like I need a 23160 if I'm going to restore the SII.

    Let me see?

    I don't know about:
Discovery Series I, II or 3
Air suspension on RRC (the ones with a one piece body)
    P38a
    Defender
    County
    RRS
Whatever the current RR Vogue is called
Freebys or FreeRovers, or .... (I know it's a name something like that)

    Diana

P.S. Gumby there are plenty of SII 231601s (branded ROK) about. The 80" crowd are all looking for the English made rims, I am sure that someone in Melbourne will have some to give you.

So you know about Land Rovers, and not those other things that happen to be decended from them. For me, Land Rover ended at the end of the SIIA. I don't like plastic.

Would split rims be the English made rims?

Yes, split wheels are English made, but what I think Diana is talking about is the same number but made in the UK, not Australia. (Split wheels were an option on Series 1 and may have continued as an option on Series 2. They have never been popular, and I have rarely seen them. Interesting contrast with the Jap four wheel drives, that mostly had detachable side rims as standard from the late fifties when they first appeared here until recent years when recreational four wheel drives started to outnumber working ones)

My '49 has a set of split rims. That said, I could probably get the tube out quicker using levers on a standard rim than how long it would take to use a socket to split the rim (assuming no rattle gun).
