Not really sure about the tdi models, but on the county models they only come on when the a/c is switched on.

On the 200 TDI they worked with the air con and then only if the engine temp rose they would also activate

both my TDi and TD5 discos - fans come on when engine temp gets up OR when Ac is on. The TDi had both thermos replaced - many said they have never heard of both going

the fan works cos i can start it with handheld, but if i look at the live data, its never asked to switch on buy the AC or if the engine gets hot? its werd, i left it running for ages once with the AC on full boor an the fan only come on after about 10mins an was only on for about 1min an then stayed off, i thort the fans come on as soon as you tern the AC on?

According to the wiring diagram the electric fan is part of the air conditioning circuit and should only come on with the aircon, HOWEVER, it is actually controlled by an output from the ecu, so in theory it will come on whenever the ecu tells it too, which is dependent on how this is set up. This is now in the realm of the cyber geeks who now about ecu programming!
