Whats the difference?

May I ask what the differences are between a series 2 and a series 2a

As some of you know we have a new car and I have no idea whether it is a 2 or a 2a.......
and I need to find out as we want to restore it up as best we can to so would like to put the correct parts on for original looks ect.

have also been told that the tray wont be original! did they ever come with a tray? as we like the tray.

If you could let me know the differences even if they are only subtle as it will help me on my ebay uk buying frenzie

Vents! Does it have lever type vent handles or screw ones?
Screws indicate series 2, levers 2a, or so i've heard.

But the best way is to check the chassis number, if it ends with a letter (a through to g i think) its a 2a, if no suffix letter, its a series 2.

Feed your numbers into this and it'll give you some basic info

now who knows what the revsions were, im guessing it was electric windows but im still trying to find the switch to open them.

electric windows? You have to be kidding.
The suffix is inversely proportional to the number of corners on the wheels, as production went on, the technology was refined till they had almost cornerless wheels. But then the clever people of Solihull invented coil springs and stopped refining wheels.

The only definitive difference between 2 and 2a is that Series 2a has a letter suffix on the chassis number. The introduction of the 2.25 diesel to replace the 2.0 was the treigger for the change, but both 2 and 2a had continuous development, with the suffix letter changing when larger changes were made. It is impossible to tell looking at fittings etc as the later bits can all be fitted to older models, and after fifty years you can bet some have been.
