Aftermarket navigation and Rear entertainment system

Hi,

Anyone here installed an aftermarket navigation system and/or rear entertainment system in their Disco 3?

Any advice on which one to go for?

I have a full Alpine system in mine, consisting of:
Roof mount DVD - RSE2
IVA-W502 in dash monitor - Nav unit and i-Pod sit in the glove box, also have bluetooth option for phone and rear camera.

All were installed by Northfield Moorooka, who do great work. Happy for you to take a look if you're in Brisbane.

Also fitted an Audison SRx3 amp to the rh rear compartment in the boot area, powering Dynaudio splits in the front. Have some Morel coax's to fit in the rear doors and I'm done! The amp can power a sub, but we never have space to cart it around and trying to fit one in the car is difficult (and $$$).

Very happy with the system and much cheaper (and better) than the factory LR option available at the time (mine's an MY08 model)

I've got a HP navigator that I stick on the windscreen and a Phillips DVD and second screen that I power from the socket behind the console. Does the job but I suspect I'm not being of much assistance to you

Hi Ash,

We had a VMS 3000 MkII system fitted to our MY07 TDV6 SE late last year. The VMS is a full multimedia system (DVD/CD/MP3/SD card/USB/Radio) with on and off-road navigation in a double DIN size unit, and 6.5" screen. The street navigation is excellent (IGo) and the system comes with Memory Map preloaded for off-road navigation. We've loaded OziExplorer CE onto it for off-road navigation, as I had used it before we got the VMS.

We didn't get the rear screens fitted, but it is 'dual zone' and will run DVD to the rear while the nav runs in the front. We had a reversing camera fitted, and there is still provision for another camera to be added.

The VMS also has Bluetooth connectivity (I don't have a Bluetooth phone though ) and it has iPod control as well (I don't have one of them either).

Probably not the cheapest option around, but it is a lot cheaper than the LR factory option, and in reality, is more functional for me given it will run OziExplorer (or Memory Map if preferred). I particularly liked the fact everything was in the one unit, and I got sick of my Navman mount falling off the windscreen (and having to hide it every time I left the vehicle unattended).

Our D3 has the HiICE stereo, which has to remain connected because it is part of the computer network. I didn't want to replace it anyway, as the six-stacker is great. So before I bought the VMS, I had my local installer confirm that he could fit it into the cubby hole in the top of the dash (where the factory satnav screen goes), AND that he could run it into the existing system as an 'aux input'. He confirmed both could be done, and was true to his word. He also fitted an extra speaker under the dash, so in reality, I don't need to run it through the main system for around town navigation.

I also had him wire the unit up to my second battery. This avoided any possible conflict with the CANBUS, and on a more practical note, meant I could leave the GPS running during stops (mornos, lunch etc) so the system was ready to go as soon as I was. No waiting for the system to start up and acquire the satellites again, which was pretty painful with my old Navman. The VMS is pretty fast, but it is still nice just hopping in, starting the car and driving off knowing the unit is ready to do its thing.

It is not a flush installation like the factory screen, but I'm very happy with the finished job. The attached photo should give you an idea of what it looks like installed.

That is similar to mine I am running:
- Kenwood KOS-L702 screen
- Kenwood KOS-V500 amp and controller
- Kenwood KNA-G431 - GPS Unit
- Kenwood KNA BT200 - Bluetooth interface

Mine is wired up so the original head unit sends signals to the KOS-V500 for AM/FM and CDs.

Please note that it is a very tight squeze to locate the V500 under the front seats.

No probs with the questions!

I received the car with the Kenwood GPS etc. installed by the previous owner(I am the 2nd owner). Thus how did the install, and how much are unknowns, the parts are available for around $2,500 from a major car audio store.

I can take some pics, but the screen install looks the same as the others....
