I cant tell you how to open the fuel cap, but i can tell you that the car should tolerate normal unleaded. I would recommend using premium as its cleaner burning and better for the engine in the long run.
Hi everyone.
Thank Dog the internet is anonymous as I don't believe I am having to ask this question...
My hubbie and I purchased a 2nd hand Disco 3 (petrol) on Friday arvo and he promptly had to ship overseas for work at 5am Saturday morning. So I am left without the "man in my life" for these womanish questions...
My boys are dying to head out for a drive in the new car but it needs petrol! The manual is talking about the petrol in a language my female brain cannot cope with, the local dealership is closed and google is not cooperative either!!!
Does the Disco 3 take premium unleaded or normal unleaded???
If I muck it up I will be dead meat I'm sure when my husband gets home in 2 weeks.
Please are there any able-minded people out there who can help?
(Then I just have to figure out how to get the cap open etc, LOL)
Thanking you in advance

jeerezzz i ask embarassing questions alot and thers,s no harm in doing it , people from aulro are very helpful .
Are you sure your its not a diesel ?
someone with a d3 will post what the best fuel for your vehicle is
sorry did,nt see petrol in brackets
Don't worry about asking (what you might think are silly questions) I am new to Landies too and the other more experienced people have been great helping me out with to them are basic questions. Anyway if you put the wrong fuel in, it can be VERY expensive to repair.
Thank you everyone so much for making me feel so comfortable - I am a domestic Goddess about to find her inner Sarah Connor I think PMSL.
Oh, and thanks too, to the moderator for moving this question somewhere more relevant (didn't see this section).
OK - I think I'll go with premium then at least until my husband gets home and he can make the final call. Will cost a bit no doubt, but at least I won't be harming the engine.
Now I will have to have a look and really start reading the threads on this forum. How good would it be to actually be able answer some of my husband's questions when he gets home!!!
Once again, thank you
The D3 petrol is recommended to run on premium, Octane 95. Usually 3 grades of petrol available, normal (91 octane), 95, Premium and 98 Premium.
None should harm the engine but it will run best on 95.
Just dont put diesel in it if it's a petrol..
LOL. Fifi, this is your husband speaking...
Please find that page in the manual we were reading at lunch on Friday, which talked about recommended fuel octane or RON.
Here are the RON values of fuel at our local BP:
BP Regular Unleaded = 91 RON (this is definitely not the right fuel)
BP Premium Unleaded = 95 RON (I think this is the right fuel)
BP Ultimate = 98 RON (this may be the right fuel, won't hurt, but will be $5/tank more expensive to buy)
The filler cap is on the drivers side. It locks/unlocks with the rest of the doors. You just push it to open it.
If you're planning to go on any major trips, please check the oil before you take it out, thanks. There will be a page in the manual explaining where to find the dipstick. If the oil is at or below the 'low' mark on the dipstick, you'll need to put a half litre more in it before you go driving. Again, the manual will tell you which specification oil to use, and how to fill it.
Have fun - and remember the drivers side mirror is convex ;-)

Unfair MobyDisco should have allowed Fifi to utilise her independence. Poor woman can't get away with anything, you are being watched

It'll run fine on standard unleaded but premium is the go for fuel economy and power...well worth the extra cost.
