New to Defenders, seeking some advice on a possible vehicle

    Hi,
I have been considering buying a Defender for many years. My main goal is to do Cape York, Gulf country and Northern Australia for starters. I currently own an 82 FJ40 with a 350 Chev, unfortunately it doesn't quite have the range to undertake these trips with out a trailer full of fuel.

I have found (on carpoint) a 2008 (07MY) 110 Station Wagon for $39950, 22,700km, Zermat Silver. I asked if there have been any issues (clutch, gear box rattle, diffs, vacuum pump failing, loss of power, rust, Water leaks from rain, etc...), however the owner has replied that it has been faultless mechanically.

Any thoughts on the asking price vs condition would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Sav

I' suprised the Vac pump and clutch haven't been done as it is an 07MY. Loss of power, rust and water leaks are hit and miss things. I've had the water leaks but not the other two. For a city car it's low mileage over two years suggesting it hasn't been past the car park. Best thing would be to drive it and see what it's like.

Also it has been played with:
Hi Spec Kenwood/Garmin GPS (w/Speed & Red Light Cam warnings)
    DVD/Reversing Cam
    iPod-iPhone compatible
    Bluetooth, Radio, CD
    ...are all non-standard

Rubber Mats Front/Mid/Rear - look to ne genuine in the rear and if so are good to have

Fantastic Bi-Xenon Headlights - Definitely not standard and may not be road legal for the sale. Would be nice though

Also price may be a little high, but I'm not sure.

IT would still be under warranty, at least another 9 months to go?

You might be able to go to a dealer and ask for the history of the vehicle, or take it to the dealer for a inspection? Might be worth doing in case Land Rover have knocked back any warranty issues with the fuel system.

Also worth checking the breather for the fuel tank is not located above the rear wheel and has been re located.

But for $39k that sounds like a bargain - I'd consider it at that price! If I had the money.....

The question that might never be truthfully answered is....

    WHY?

    WHY are they selling it?

SHez a beauty. You can probably drive her beyond Cape York, all the way to England.

    That price is AWESOME.
get a full check by a landrover mechanic and if its all good I'd buy it B4 somebody else does.

Some dreamers still asking for megga bucks for thier 100,000klm + old TD5 ones. Go for IT

The only other consid is that i am in Newcastle and there is currently no local dealer so any sevicing/warranty issues will have to travel to Sydney until another comes along. I spoke to land rover australia today and the operator couldn't release the information as to when there might be a new Newcastle dealer. Does anyone have any information?

    Cheers
