    Smile SIIB or A

Hi all, was rumaging at a clearance sale and found a dismantled FC. The guy said its all there and showed me a pic (didnt take all that much notice at the time so A or B Im not sure *(but probably .

If I chase this one up can you give me a clue what it may be worth? It had a full canopy and looked to be ok nick.

What should I offer if its an A or B?

Any special features I should ask about? What missing bits determine a big problem or discount of cost?

Ive had a read through the threads but specifics are a bit thin. Hopefully the experts can give me some learnin'.

    Thanks
    Dale

Series forward controls are a big learning curve.

They are unique and many parts are orphans:
    • The series 2a shares most of it's chassis with the military 109's and 1 ton models, although both were developed after the SIIa FC. They have a habit of falling over on side slopes.
    • The IIa headlamps should be between the blinker and sidelamps (unless the front panel has been changed).
    • The IIB has a 4" wider track (very similar to Range Rover and Defender track).
    • The IIB has an anti roll bar on the front axle and the rear axle is underslung. (The springs are on top of the axle casing.)
    • The IIB has a gearstick that mounts on the top of the engine and has a replicator bar that goes over the top of the engine).
    • The IIA has a gearstick coming out of the floor in front of the seatbox and has a selector mechanism that comes out to the RHside of the gearbox.
    • IIB's have ENV front and rear (except some very late ones that have Salisbury). Check that the ENV diff and axles are not broken - almost impossible to acquire.
    • Early IIA FC may have Rover diffs in the front and rear. Mid production ones have ENV rear diffs and late production IIA have ENV front and rear.
    • Check what size tyres are fitted, if 8.25 16 the tyres are worth about 1/2 - 3/4 the price of the correct 9.00 16s (Michelin XZL 9.00R 16 are $700.00 each).

A good condition SIIB can go for about $5,000 - $7,000 or more.

They are so rare, if more than about 80% complete they should be better than $1,000 in any condition. What is more the scrap metal merchants are now paying $600+ for series 1 shorties (Ask Master Chief, he was out bid by one,) and there is a lot more metal in a forward control.

    Hope this helps.

    Diana

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
