Thread: Hiring a car trailer

Dan, I am pretty sure the 7/11 at Silkstone has car trailers for hire, the big drawback about the hire trailers is you can usually only carry 1300kg. Matilda may come in under that, I am not sure. Also have you tried the likes of Kennards? I would still love to come, but am struggling to keep one vehicle on the road at the moment.

I just googled 7/11 they hire the U Haul trailers and as you have pointed out U Haul don't seem to have car trailers available for hire. Kennards have them listed though, but the load carrying capacity is only 1200kg. Maybe a flat bed truck would be a better option, I am sure there would be somewhere to unload it at Coolatai and it should be possible to find somewhere to load it locally around Ipswich.

Kennards don't hire car trailers in Qld any more - I have already tried them. If I need a flat bed truck, I'll either drive Matilda, just go in Grover - or just not go. I'll send apologies for options 2 and 3! How do I weigh Matilda? Is it on my rego docs?

......an unladen 86 inch weight is 2702lbs which is 1225kg - over the hire limit.

Hello again from Brisbane.

All seems to be getting a bit dire and the logistics rapidly taking on the proportions of finding a missing airliner....

Flatbed trucks, trailers and what not only get one vehicle there - two I suppose if you count the tow vehicle. And at a bugger of a cost if you have to hire them - don't suppose the self drive option is all that cheap with fuel and potential repairs.

Has to be a simpler way to get around this - just haven't worked it out yet other than possibly volunteer to push!

That's actually approaching a serious offer - I am pretty much fired up to going to Coolatai in May and working around the usual barriers of Mrs S3ute and her disdain for my long-standing enthusiasm for rustic p___-artistry weekends in obscure country towns. Besides which she is probably terrified at the real prospect of waking up some Monday to find a Farmall and Fowler parked in the backyard.

So, a viable but still cunning plan remains the order of the day.

From a simplistic viewpoint the challenge seems to boil down to one of two approaches. Either getting the costs and logistics down, or making the exercise seem so contemporarily attractive as to make one want to say "stuff the costs and logistics" and go anyway.

The wilds of the New England hills beckon, and what better a target?

What if I was to tow my trailer (as detailed in a previous post) down to switch behind said S3. Transfer trailer to grover, load Matilda, return to S3 (formally known as "Nic") get in convoy and mosey on down the road.
