    p76 sump gasket

    Hey

I have a P76 motor in my 1984 110 and I have the sump off at the moment. Just wondering if a gasket for a 3.5 / 3.9 will fit. I plan to use goop on it as well but seeing the pan has a raised edge on it I thought a gasket would be best.

I have just been reading on different thoughts on gaskets vs. goop and my idea is to run both. I have a rubber / cork gasket but I am not too keen to use it.

I'm 99% sure that they are the same. However we have been using silicone gasket stuff only with good results (orange stuff, can't remember what exactly). Just make sure you clean the block well with a gasket scraper and use a straight edge on the sump to make sure it isn't 'pulled in' at the bolt holes. Those are the 2 main cause of leaks in the sump.

Yep, Lotsa care flattening the sump edge, and a snail trail of goop. The only major gasket unique to the P76 is the inlet manifold gasket. Rover gaskets can be used everywhere else.
