Rock Crawler - underdrive - reduction gear

Apart from the Ashcroft Underdrive are there any lt230 rockcrawler gears available on the market now?

Who and where and what price? My Google is coming up empty!

I need some reduction gears - the ashcroft gear is fab but expensive.
I want to mate it to a ZF auto and have a reconditioned transfer case but no reduction gears.

    Thanks

    Hey Keith.

I believe MR Automotive can supply 30 and 49% (MaxiDrive) gears. There was a recent group buy organised on Outers

    Thanks Pete

I have a set in the Ute - not sure which ratio - and with ZF a must really.
Need a set for the new project truck - did not see anything on MR Automotive's web site though - looked there first.

Will give them a call tomorrow.

I have been reading about the Ashcroft unit - i know there are times with the Ute that the box howls when doing fast low range so the Ashcroft set up has appeal as allows you to use old low range ratio as well. Also not need to rebuild the unit.

Anyone have knowledge? Also is the 30 or 49% reduction the better option? Want to run 35's at least.

Thanks Tim - it is for comp and club runs - will give us 2 cars = 5 seats (new ute has 3 and old one has 2)

How would I figure out the ratio in the Orange Ute? I am presuming it has 30% reduction - dont know as bought the transfer case from a car being parted so dn't know the history.

Sorry Justin - should have asked - was just thinking out loud late last night - thanks for info (and you probably did tell me it just did not register when I got it form you last year)

The reason I mentioned it was that the orange Rangie as that is my only comparison base when driving. Hence my only base for decision making going forward. In that last trip i found it OK on that slippery track but at some points on the farm tracks I maxed out the zf and had to stop and put in high range so not screaming. My worry is the 49% would be too low - but then not driven with 35s yet.

What do you run/recommend? In the Stage One/Rangie (Bumblebee) we will run 3.5 super charged with ZF Auto and Nissan 4.1 diffs (at this stage) and plan to be able to run both 35s (may go to 37s - not sure) and 33s as well (for some comp - road driving - work).

I am tossing between the 30% and 49% reduction OR the Ashcroft PTO plug in version that is a lot more expensive (up to $3k installed) BUT gives 4 transfer gear ranges - hence might be more versatile esp if we want to do some speed comp work (maybe!!). 49% may be too radical for anything but slow rock work.

As I have a spare transfer case I guess the worst case is I sell the thing if ratios not suitable - but trying to avoid that.

    Hey Keith,

Personally if I had the money, the only option is the Underdrive.

Everyting else is a compromise in my eyes.

That is kind of where my thinking is at - hence the QU I guess - I see me using this truck for a range of 4x4 driving and flexibility has some appeal.

And at end of day can sell it off as a unit too.

But as you say "if I had the money" - however FX rate pretty good so maybe this is the time to buy!

Just wish I could get better pricing than the
£1500 plus freight! Maybe they could sponsor us!!

See if the shipping is cheaper for 2 (but dont tell Sam or I will be in trouble)

They are worth the money though. Several of my mates have them back home and they are awesome
