My defender surges when in first gear (shoots off like a rocket) about 1/4 of the time, and when selecting second has a massive dead spot before the acceleration starts to pick up.
The first gear surging has only started to happen in the last couple of months and seems to be increasing. I told the dealership with the usual response from them being "could not fault" when they looked at it.
The massive dead spot in second has been there since I have owned the car and can be brought on easily by releasing the clutch right out before giving any juice (I had one guy from the dealership tell me I have to change my driving style and ride the clutch to get the most out of the car!!!) What typically happens is... nothing, then a second and a bit latter will slowly slowly slowly start to wind up. I have mentioned this numerous times to the dealership with there first several responses being, you guessed it, "could not fault". The last time I took it in again I again told them to look at it and this time they conceded that there was a slight turbo lag but it was considered normal. I know what turbo lag is and this is not it. If it were it would happen in gears either side of second; besides this dead spot occurs before any acceleration really even starts.
This car has spent more time in the dealerships garage than in mine. I do not have faith in the dealerships ability to iron my car out by themselves so please chime in if you know what's going on. I could really use the help.
