My Puma now goes like a rocket.

    Well... kind of.
About a month ago it started to periodically shoot off like a scalded cat when I gave it only a couple of centimeters of gas pedal. It is starting to happen more now and my concern is that something will go bang, that or I will lose control and hit something or someone.
When it first happened I was turning a corner when the lights went green. It shot off so quick I went into the oncoming lane and being taken by surprise I had to have quick hands to keep it under control. Not your usual Defender experience.
    Any thoughts what's happening?

someone has done a scrap heap challenge and put a Ferrari under it over night while you were asleep..

So it does it in first I take it...I couldn't get mine to even feel fast in first with out it revving its head off never mind fly off with minimal control

    what do the rev's do?

    what gear is it in?

Sounds like it could be software related to me...reason I say that was before our engine change we used to get pulsing i.e the car would speed up of its own accord in waves
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Sounds like the clutch pressure switch could be playing up.

    Maybe an electronic throttle issue?

A Ferrari! That would explain all the things that have gone wrong with it.
The revs seem consistant with the speed. If I took my foot of the pedal they drop straight away. The odd thing is that I give it only a tiny bit of pedal when the quick getaway happens.

It may be something to do wih the antistall feature I heard about which blips the throttle when an imminent stall is detected. Perhaps raise the revs a tad higher as you engage the clutch to see if this makes a difference. If it goes away then the problem might be due to this feature malfunctioning.
