The point, is, I think that it is rare to see wear on a "properly maintained" Rover R&P. Failures I have seen are ring gear tooth breakage and pinion bearing failure.

Ian, does that match with your (much larger) experience with seeing broken R&Ps?

May be more economical for me then cutting and swapping diffs etc.

Go to a speedway swap meet and buy a couple of Halibrand quick change centres, fit one to each end of your LR and change ratios whenever you feel like.

    Ashcroft Ring and Pinions

Hi just an update on our new heavy duty ring and pinions, you can see the tooth profile difference on the 3.5 ratio against the 3.54, but also they are available in 'reverse' cut for the front differential for added strength.

So is anyone?, looking at this as an option for stronger front gearset, but not sure on the different ratios having affect on the centre diff

You will have no problems running the 3,5:1 with your 3.54:1 .I run Ashcroft 4.12:1 in the front of my Defender with a 4.1:1 Dana in the rear.
