Rear Flex: What is the MAX! (Down Travel)

    Hi everyone.

I have to mucking around with rear setup in my 110 for a while now. I have fitted 14.5" stroke billies using brackets to space my std mounts Up 7".

I'm now putting in a set of Sus Stuff 2-3" lift soft rears but I don’t really want to lose my down travel.

I was thinking about lowering the shock mounts 2" and ext the bump stops +2.

But I was wonder if this would be too much down travel and the Chassis bushes (trailing Arm) and A-frame joint would bind, making it a useless modification.

******* Also: I have cranked trailing arms (home made) with 10* bend and the bush is under no load (std springs) can angled spacers be brought to angle the bush to counter the lift?

    Any ideas?

you can probably play around with the trailing arms enough to sort out their binding (you probably already have) my guess would be the ball joint binding. forget about the springs and figure they are unlimited, along with shocks.

if you look at the ball joint, at ride height it is already past the center point of free movement.

ball joint could be spaced up to help, BUT the already high Anti squat will get higher, and only higher with down travel.

flex is great but useable flex is greater.......balance the rear with the front.

work out the fronts max and then set the rear up with a bit more not alot more.....

    just my 10%gst

I have a set of angled donut bushes on my disco to correct the effect of the lift, i got mine from LRA....
    Suspension Bushes

I'm pretty sure you can get angled wedges that do the same job

Listen to uninformed and his comments.

Flex is nice, useable flex is better.
    Traction is better still!

I think wedges would be better.

As the angled donut bush does not has much rubber on the lower side of bush. .

Do you know where I can get the wedges from?

for my way of thinking these are usless for anything other than downward travell, the trailing arm has so much more rubber to comperss in the upward direction. set your lift up and have trailing arms made/cranked to suit what you have, that way the bush is always neutral when you are on level ground.

Thanks mate, I will be setting the front up to flex well but the 3 link front is going to cost alot.(I may build one.)

So I choose to do the rear First as it cheaper.

you explained it in words what i was thinking.

I have cranked arms but the bush is neutral now (before lift).

So I'm looking for some wedges. Any ideas where to get them?.

    LRA did sell them.

if you want the worlds best flexing rover then ditch the rubber bushes and install some rose/heim joints, but there is not point in that unless you do simmillar to the A frame and deffinatly the front end.

as serg said its about ballance.
