Thread: Any tips on removing a tyre from a Boost Alloy

Very difficult. Here is an earlier post which may have a few hints.

We will be up in a few months if you want to measure this up.

We have used this in anger on 2 occasions since the post. It takes less than 15 minutes for a certain bead break on these. Remember to start at the valve position as there is virtually no safety lip at this point.

Got a highlift?
If so, put the rim under the tow hitch receiver and use your highlift as a bead breaker.
Or drive over the edge of the tyre to pop it off the bead.

You have to start at the right place as the bead lip is smaller on one side - but which?

I think it's 180 degrees from the valve. Check with Bundalene, he's sure to have a modern alloy to look at.

Oops! I was wrong. As noted above, shallowest is near the 4" either side of the valve.

Checked with Bundalene, Ron and it is nearest to the valve.

The tyre in that image isn't a Boost, I suspect it's a D1 alloy though. Not that there's a lot of difference.

Just ad a play with the tyreplyers and it will only end up with me gouging out the underside of the tyre rim. So that's a no go. You really need something like Bundalene's beed breaker.

I'd thought about Tombie's suggestion to drive over it until after I'd posted too. Forgot about the hi-lift option and whilst I don't have one, Stuuu is just down the road a little and he does have one.

Oh well I have 30 days in which to remove the tyre from the rim, so plenty of time.

OK scrub the hi-lift option - tyre's bead stayed in place and Defender eventually went upwards

Before you ask I had it sitting over the valve side close to the rim and was also using a rubber mallet.

How about drilling a hole straight through both side walls, about 25mm from the rim, pass a length of "heavy" threaded rod throught the holes. Then fit a nut each end of the threaded rod, (with big washers/plate), and do the nuts up???

The R and R bead breaker has a super foot for the LR alloy safety rim



Super Foot only to be used on the BBHD primarily to push further in on the tyre bead before pushing down. For rims with extra deep safeties such as alloy Rover rims & ATVs. It also increases the depth of push for extra stubborn tyres.
