    Torque Converter not Locking Up

I have notice recently that torque converter on my D2 (V8) is not locking up.

Does anyone know what may be causing this? Is this an easy fix? I have seen on other forums (not Landrover) it may have something to do with thermostat or coolant, but I can't see how.

    Cheers.

Vehicle seemed a bit thirsty lately?

Possibly MAF is going as it affects the Trans ECU.

Have you checked your fluid levels?

At 80km/h and above can you feel the trans trying to lock up? Or nothing it all?

Yes engine temperature does play a part in the control of the torque converter lock-up.See here.

Maybe you have a faulty temperature sensor?

    Thanks Tombie,

Yes, it has been thirsty lately. I usually get around 15l per 100km on a cruise to Perth but lately it's more like 17/18.

What is the MAF? Mass Air Flow?

Fluid levels are fine, and the temp gauge shows normal.

Can't feel the transmission trying anything at abve 80km/h.

This tranny has done 340,000kms and doesn't shift as smoothly as it did. I figured it's just getting old.

    OK

The V8s suffer from oxygen sensors going and MAF failure.
Complete MAF failure will almost always disable the V8.

Get on a testbook or Rovacom and check fault codes!

As for the trans, get the filter & gasket from Rovacraft and a bottle of SIN ATF from Penrite. Drop the trans pan, new seal and filter and re-fill. Your oils probably had it.

The poor performance should show up on a diagnostic.
If you know anyone with a V8 you should be able to swap a known working MAF to test.

    Thanks Tombie,

It's about due for a service, so I'll get Kevin at Rovertech to look into it.

Not much I can do about it down here in Dunsborough anyway.
