    300 tdi tensioner help

What am i doing wrong here? 300tdi disco.

Im trying to put my fan belt/serpentine belt tensioner back on but its not happening. I have bolted the tensioner back on but i cant move the pulley to the position it needs to be in order to slip the belt under. I thought they are meant to give? This is a brand new part. I have also replaced the water pump

No matter how much force i use i cant get it to move up to get the belt under. Whats the trick?

You just aren't using enough force I think.

New ones require a bit of extra force to get them moving at first go.

You have to use a nice long extension bar, probably half a metre or so.

I normally use a 15 ring spanner over the pulley nut (not the one bolted to the engine, the other one at the pulley end) with nearly 1m of pipe over it; be very careful though it has alot of tension and the pipe can slip easily.

When facing the engine from the front of the car you need to push in an anti-clockwise direction.

Also the later D1 belts are shorter compared to earlier model ones.
