    Cleaning intercooler - how often?

I cleaned out my intercooler yesterday and was surprised by the amount of crap that came out of it. How I often should you give it a good clean?

    Hey Chunk

I had some prepsol in the shed so used that first to remove most of the muck, then gave it a good rinse with hot soapy water a few times until it was coming out clean, then just hot water and then a good blow out with a hair dryer to dry it out.

Think I have something to do this weekend then...... with all the 40th festivities now out of the way, I have time on my hands again

I would have thought good old petrol for the gunk if you don't have accesss to a solvent degreaser, hot soapy water, clean water flush then a rinse with metho to absorb the water would be good way.

    Cheers

Congrats on the coming of age Andrew
Funny how you don't feel any different afterwards (other than the seedy feeling )

The big thing with using any solvent (and I generally use white spirit, thinners at a pinch) is to thoroughly dry the internals of the IC before re-installing.

I use a big bloody hair dryer and let it rip through the guts to get it all nice and warm.
You don't want any residual liquid or fumes left when you install and fire up the engine.

Since cleaning out the intercooler and changing the hoses it certainly feels like it accelerates a lot more freely. Mind you sometimes I wash it and it feels the same way
