Do you have contact details for LRA??
The LT230 to GQ adapter - the adapters and spud shaft would be worth a look but would it be easier to use the GQ transfer??
Any problems getting the GQ gearbox into the tunnel? any loss of ground clearance; it's a big box.

yes definetly easier to use a gq transfer, but that have crap ratios

Doing it all again, diffs and all, i would probobly go GQ diffs, gearbox and transfer, run dual tranfers and/or reduction gears, they diffs/box/transfer can all be had cheap, probobly less then a grand all up if you shop around. then you can sell of your rover diffs/box/transfer, plenty of demand for them as we all break them hahaha.

fitting wise, they are long, so you will need to mod your crossmember for the back of the seatbox, we made a new one and moved it back a fair way. Not sure how it will work out with the rear output on the GQ transfer. As for the tunnel, its tight... but we will make up a new one out of some checker plate most likely.

I've just bought all the parts - including mainshaft, pinion shaft, seal kit, syncro cones, bearings etc for around $900 incl freight to get here. Ashcroft were blindingly quick.
The rest is just labour. like you I've never done one before, but I've seen the lt85 do sterling service.

So your ready to get into it...do you have any experience messing with gearboxes?? never opened one up myself. Must say I am a bit scared "preloads, tolerances" all scary terms!!
I would appreciate following your rebuild if you do it yourself.
Currently stuck trying to undo the nut on the back of the handbrake drum...geez it's tight!! what a great start - can't even undo one nut!!

One day thats my plan but at the moment I am in a rental property and simply don't have the room to do this, no driveway and a small garage. I will revisit this - my eventual plan is GQ Gearbox, trans and diffs.
But for now if I can get the car going then that gets the wife off my back!! so due to the complexities of the swap I will stick to what I have and just get it going for the short term and then when the gearbox dies again as it surely will I will revisit this (hopefully by then I will have the room to swap it all over.
Thanks for your ideas though and I will be in touch in a year or two when it is time to start.
