Thanks Richard.
I agree that this would be the way to go, but I don't see how it could be fitted on a Puma.

Took me a while to work out the bracketry, the vbelt take off for the drive was easy. What you need to determine is how you can fit up a flat platform to fit a pump, doesn't need to be big, I think my current platform is around 180mm x 100mm, plenty large enough to mount the pump.
OK.
I have been told that my new Puma should be ready to collect "sometime" this month. Every time I get home I check my answer machine :)
I was going by memory about the amount of space. I will certainly see if I can fit a pump. Is so... I will.
Miky - if you want some hydraulic advice in SA try Dependable Distributors. The bloke's name is Rob (or Bob?).

I got a Mile Marker brought in as spare parts (i.e. I bought the drum, the gearbox, the case, etc as individual pieces) via Michael at TJM, and the cost for the basic unit was $1200-ish, without cable as I didn't know if I wanted wire or synthetic.
Rob/Bob sorted out all the hydraulic levers and hoses etc for me.
I found a 2nd hand PTO unit from a RR bloke up in Qld to bolt onto the rear of my Defender transfer case, but I would have used a replacement power steering pump if that wasn't available.
Have a look here for an uprated ZF74 pump: 4x4winches.com - Truth Not Opinion

That ZF74 PS pump is a midget. Only 1 horsepower by my calculations. I would want something more substantial and I would definitely drive it from the transmission PTO outlet. Get an auxiliary pump from a small loader. Some of these machines have 2500psi and 15gpm (and more) which is 25 horsepower. That will pull harder & quicker than a 14 year old with a Penthouse magazine.
Bearing in mind that I have a D3 not a Defender, by the way do the latest defenders have facility to attach a PTO to the transfer case as the older ones and the RRC's did?
The ZF74 certainly has plenty of power and enough speed for me.........faster than an ARB electric.
