Probably a dumb question but would there be any problem running an 8 rib pulley with a 7 rib belt, tracking wouldnt be an issue ?
4000RPm vs 2000RPM is high speed

Not a problem at all, I have just installed an Iskra Alternator into my 300Tdi and it has a 8 Vee pulley, with the standard 7 Vee belt staying exactly where it should.

I have just installed a 120 Amp Iskra Alternator, as a result of info on this Thread ... a BIG Thanks to all involved. I was growing tired of new and reco Marretti alternators dying like flies. I have learned NO alternator is a submarine ...... So I'll post what I found out along the way so others may get something from it too.

Sadly, the above quoted price of $280 + GST was no where near it. Part # 11203205 is a 100 Amp model, not imported into Aust by PJL Diesel. They said if it was to be brought into OZ it would cost around $380 mark.

They do import and hold the Iskra 120 Amp model, Part #11203822. The quoted price for this unit was $520. I cited the info here in this forum and plied the bloke on the phone at PJL Diesel, he had a look at the pricing and came up with $450 inc GST for the 120 Amp Iskra, delivered next day, installed one hour after the courier delivered it to my place!!

I found the bottom single mount hole had to have the M8 thread drilled out to allow a through bolt. The standard serpentine belt was used, albeit a tight fit. This is because the 120 Amp version has a 61mm diameter 8 Vee pulley instead of the 50mm 7 Vee Landrover (Marretti) version.

I also checked the Iskra website and found a full breakdown of spare parts available for these alternators, this made me happy. I had trouble finding any spares for the Marretti versions. Now lets see how the thing lasts ..

While on the subject of alternators

I'm going to fit a 100A Disco alternator to my Defender

I went into my local dealership after looking around for ages and they can do a 100A Genuine Disco alternator for $380

Before I fork out the doe can anyone just confirm that the alternator mounts are all the same between the Disco and Defender and from 1994-1999?

    Thanks

Well mine packed it in yesterday, luckly I have a dual battery so the missus could crank the tdi by pressing the bypass switch on the Projecta150 dual battery box.

I took the old one out it was a Unipoint 75amp, the bearing was stuffed and when I put the voltmeter on the battery there was no charge when running.

So I went done to Bashi's Auto next to work with the old one and they supplied me with a new Lucas 65A LH mount for $220 and replaced the pully for me.

I know Lucas is a bad word on here but for $220 and 2yr warrenty Iam not worried and I wanted a 100amp but dont have the cash at the moment, plus wife wants her car back

Can't say fairer than that. I follow the alternator threads here because I reckon mine must be due soon or the medium future. 220000 and on the original. It seems to be OK and while I intend to go the Disco route like Jock has I don't really know why. I run an Engel and a Versalite on my camping trips and a GPS and iPod on the road but don't have spotties and have never been aware of the old 65amp not keeping my two batteries topped up.

If the cheaper option with pulley swaps and mounting brackets etc saves you $150, I haven't quite figured out why you'd bother unless the OEM one is a known weak point. If the next one lasts 220000 I hope to be able to afford a new car by then.

Just want to mention that I have worked out the Tacho is now not accurate because the Hz output from the Alternator is less. This being the case due to the larger diameter pulley (50mm std, Iskra 61mm), therefore slower stator speed ... I don't really have an issue with this, but if any Sparky fella's have any idea's on a work-around please post the same .... Cheers
