Hi All
My 1998 130 300 TDi is due for a timing belt and recently the P gasket has started to weep.
I was planning on changing the P gasket/water pump myself shortly and then getting my mechanic mate to put in a timing belt kit.
Can it be done this way (separately) or is it best to get both jobs done at the same time? I have been researching the workshop manual and the internet and I can't see any connection between the timing belt cover plate and water pump bracket. I have ordered the P gasket and water pump ( yeap...the $150 part) plus some new hoses. etc.
Should I also be replacing the viscous fan assembly? The belt tensioner is not that old.
The motor has just ticked over 200,000kms.
Cheers

Yep, totally separate housings so can be easily done individually.
Remember when ordering the metal P gasket to order three cad plated 120mm bolts and one cad plated 65mm bolt as well and the revised tension on those four bolts is 30Nm (up from 22Nm I think)
I can dig the pat #'s up fro the bolts if you want.
So do I order the bolts from my local landrover parts supplier (British off road) or can I just walk into my local bolt place and get them....
Cheers

Yep, you're right, it was 25Nm originally.
TSB L8469bu issued on the 3/2/99
Revised bolt tension of 30Nm on all auxiliary mounting bracket to block fixings, so the nuts are done up that tight too.
The other water pump bolts are still 25Nm.
Bolt part #'s are
FC108247 (3x120mm)
FC108137 (1x65mm)
They are specials with a reduced hex/flanged head so are 300Tdi specific (although you could match up something else easily enough)
As I was silly enough to forget to order the bolts with everything else I just cleaned one up with rust converter (only just starting to corrode) and liberally smothered them in a calcium sulfonate thickened marine grease I had here that resists corrosion really well.
Thanks for info guys.
I'll order the bolts today...
One last question...do I use a gasket sealant with the P gasket or just install it dry?
If so which sealant? I have previously used Permatex non hardening gasket sealant on things like water pump gaskets.
Cheers
