I'm thinking of buying a 95 disco on gas

    Hi Guys.

I've come across a 95 disco ES Auto. On gas from LPGAS1, failry straight and clean for it's age. 245,000 on the clock. I've heard some good and some horror ($$$$) stories about this car. But then they also said the same about the VN commodore and mine was dream.

I took the car for a spin today and there was a clunk when going from D to R and R to D. I've read that this could be worn splines in the transfer case. Is this an expensive repair ? I've also heard that they are prone to needing cylinder liner repairs and this can be very expensive.

I only intend to do the occasional off road and pull a trailer sailer up the ramp. Other than that it will be low km in the inner city.

What's the real story on these cars and what should I expect to pay.

    Cheers.

    Mark

Take it to an independent Landy mechanic. Like any older 4WD there are lots of things to look for. If it's basically sound there's no reason you won't get a good life out of it, provided it's maintained. Liners don't generally come loose unless the engine has been overheated repeatedly. Once it's been assessed then you work out its value.
