Oil Temp got pretty high- should it be changed?

On my last 4wd trip, the water pump idler went bush, I kept going, hoping the noise was something thrown up from the road, but the engine overheated - the water temp guage is currently disconnected - doh.
I shut the engine down at 280 deg F oil temp.

The engine survived OK, although it boiled pretty badly once I stopped.

The question is, has the oil been affected by this temp? Should I change is as it isn't due for quite a while.

    Thanks.

And perhaps reconnect/repair the temp gauge before your next 4WD trip There's certain information regarding what's happening under the bonnet that I wouldn't drive out the gate without - this is definitely one. Replacement VDO temp gauge and sender should come in below $100, and better to prevent, than to worry about the possible damage caused after.

    Thanks all,
I thought I should change it, so glad to get confirmation.
One thing that saved the engine was I switched back to LPG when it started to get hot & it then started to falter, so I knew it was water temp too. I was sure worried though.. lost 15 litres of coolant

Definitely change the oil as this was all that was cooling your engine and has probably started to break down. Better to be safe. Just hope there has been no engine damage. Often you wont see it until the engine has cooled and heated up a couple of times. I would be preparing for at least head gaskets.
Having said that petrol engines can be pretty forgiving.
