A Slight Thud from the Front

I have this thud, now at the moment it is only soft, it does it if I pull up (to a complete stop) then take off again, it happens.

Everything in the front of the car is original at 245,000ks, except the engine mounts, which were only changed 2 mths ago and the front steering dampner, which by some strange coincidence is when the clunk first appeared, could the old steering dampner have been hiding a worn bush or could the new dampner be faulty??

The bushes on your leading arms under the axle are loose/stuffed.
Get a big spanner and tighten to Oh my God hernia foot pounds.

Better still get a screwdriver and a torch and lever the arms sideways and see if the bushes are no longer bonded to the centre tubes, which the odds are they will not be. If so replace bushes.

Shot panhard rod bushes can cause those symptoms as well. Get someone to turn the wheel from side to side (with vehicle stationary and motor off) while you watch the play.

Had the same noise (sounded like a thud in front of my feet) in a RRC and rebuilt the 'noisy' hub completely twice before I noticed these bushes were shot. Replacement cured it. Used Superpro.

    cheers, DL

After speaking to Kerry(other half) she takes the car from my work to hers, she has said she has felt it when she goes over a speed hump.

I will check these tonight, I have some spare radius arms so I'll put these in on the weekend if the panard is OK.

    Thanks guys much appreciated,

    Baz.

Yes Phil I have the rears to do this weekend, looks like the fronts will have to be changed as well, I did do a quick check of the front bushes in the radius arms and they didn't appear to be cracked, I did know the rears were shot.

Oh BTW I'll be around this arvo to borrow your spring compressors, I need to put spacers under the airbags, if your not using them of coarse
