3 bolt vs 4 bolt steering box questions

    1) is the 4 bolt a drop in replacement for the 3 bolt ie can i use the same hoses and fittings if i go from a 3 bolt to a 4 bolt (are the holes in the same places etc etc?)

    2) are the turn ratio's the same?

You will have to change some hoses around, i'm pretty sure you can buy a conversion kit for pretty cheap

So, just to clarify aside from the hose fittings, all 4 bolt boxes are interchangeable with 3 bolt? eg a disco box fit a County etc?

I did it on my county.....

I used Disco hoses from the 4 bolt donor car and used the disco oil can, then used a RRC pump (vbelt) as it was smaller than the County one.... and then made one new hose from the pump suction to the oil can....

So the fittings are different, but its easy.... alot easier if you dont have a radiator in....

but want the 4 bolt so am trying to track down some adapter fittings that are supposedly available so you can just use your old hoses...

new adwest 4 bolt with drop arm delivered to my door $780

conversion kit including bolts, cross arm, and adapters for the hoses etc $100

    more pics as i proceed.

there are some minor differences i have noticed such as the recess on the splined input shaft on the steering wheel side of the box going right round the shaft instead of being a flat of one side side it only fits in one place.

1st attachment is the 3 bolt box , second the ports on the 3 bolt the third the ports on the 4 bolt and the forth is the spline on the 4 bolt the last the adapter fitting for the hoses
