Replacing shocks.. help needed urgent!
Hi Guys
just replacing the shocks on the front of the deefer (rears are done) with the TF big bore shocks
just wondering if you keep the top hat peices that locate in theshock tower and bottom mount, as the bushes with the TF shocks are a little on the large side so i am out of thread. Without them i cant see how the shock would be kept central? and the shock threaded mounts would rub against the tower / lower mount...
Do i keep them, and do i just shape the bush to fit.. or do i scrap them and just hope the shock stays central?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve, I take it you are talking about the rubber bushes between the shocks and the mounts? When I fitted the koni's to my 110 I had to have the rubber under compression to squash them a bit so I could get the top nut on. I just lifted the axle with a trolley jack until it put some weight on the shock.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi tony
sorry yes i was talking the rubber bushed either side of the mount.
i was basically asking about the metal cups that locate either side of the mount and whether to continue to use them. The rubber bushes are slightly oversized compared to the originals so when you tighten them down they spill over the edges of these cups. to solve this now i have just filed a chamfer on the outer edge of the bush so it fits in the cup and should hold its shape. shouldnt effect anything as i have only taken about 1.5mm off the edge.
everything has gone back together so should be fine!
Thanks for the reply tho!

I had this problem as well, but in my haste I removed the metal cups altogether. I probably should have filed a chamfer like you did. I've kept them so if need be I can put them back on.
I was a bit disappointed that Terrefirma don't supply correct sized replacements with the shocks.

yeah i was a little suprised.. but i guess the bushes are cut from a 'log' and then not handled. The only reason i wanted to reuse the cups was to try and preserve the shape of the bush and to ensure the shaft was centred so it didnt bang against the shock mount hole. those cups help.
Still its not much hassle removing the shocks and adding them back in!
