I need feedback ASAP.
Wat would you consider a resonable price to swap a TD5 engine over on a Defender 130 if all parts were supplied?
Workshop just doubled the price after I had delivered my vehicle and parts to them.![]()
That's why I'm trying to find out what is a reasonable price.
I supplied 1 new long motor, all new hoses, gaskets and studs.
They need to remove current angine and install new one with the old manifolds, starter, alternator and swap the injectors over. Only extra thing I asked for was that the oil pump bolt is checked.
If their new price is ok then I can wear it. Otherwise I'm up for finding a new work shop and moving everything over to the other guys.
As it was I paid a premium for the flatbad transport.
I just paid 900 to have the V8 in my disco swapped
I only supplied a long motor so they had to swap everything over from the old engine
Cant see any reason it would cost any more just cause its a diesel
you rocked up with a lifted and locked 130 with not only all the fruit on it, but cream as well.
A Disco engine swap is a bit more straight forward than removing half the bloody car to get the engine out to begin with. If it's approx $900 for a Disco V8 swap, I think the amount of work involved in stripping the front of the 130 to do it would be more.
ID open up at $1-1.5K for a tow in drive out long engine swap over but then I
ve seen your vehicle.

Ok
Original quote was $1200
Now paying $2000
Lets hope they do a great job for the money.
While we are at it
Any ideas on the following faults
1 Air conditioning clutch open load (current)
2 Turbocharger overboosting
Obviousely it overboosted at some point
3 Over temp
3 EGR valve stuck open
No surprise since it has been removed
4 Injector 3 over fuel
5 there was also an air flow error
We are guessing the the engine overfueled then leaned right out and maybe melted piston? Will find out when I pull the old engine down.
Main thing is should I be worried about the MAF sensor and injectors aas the workshop doesn't have a rovercom.
lets start with...
ITS IN YOUR CAR..... and YOUR RIGHT BOOT..... as probable causes..
the nanocom will only be needed to check the injectors or change the codes if they put them in the wrong holes. And to clear all the codes in the ECU, I strongly suggest you borrow one for the date of pickup so that you can clear the codes, take it for a testdrive with one of the mechanics on board then do a hard restart (drop the leads off the batteries and short them together) and recheck them.
