    Td5 quick oil flush

    Afternoon folks.
Just a quick question here, wondering if there's any point with the Td5 in doing an oil change and swapping it out say 1000kms later just to give the engine a bit of a clean?
Kind of similar to the way people do with auto fluid flushes, although that's a bit different as it's about how much you're getting out.
Only reason I ask is we have a bunch of diesel oils sitting in the shed gathering dust, figured if they were within the Td5 requirements it couldn't hurt.
    Cheers

I think autos are a bit different because you can only drop about half of the fluid during a change. The motor on the other hand drops almost all of its oil if you change the full flow filter.

    Muppet,

When I bought my Td5 at 204000km, although it had been serviced regularly the oil was very black which was a bit worrying. This was my first diesel and I was told for a diesel it was normal.
After the first oil change the oil was black after only a few kilos. I ended up doing three successive oil and filter changes within a few hundred kilos. Now after 4000km the oil is still clear and I have to look carefully to see the oil level on the dipstick. It probably wasn't really necessary but I feel better. Engine flush would have been cheaper but I don' t like using them.

The td5 drops around 88% of the oil in a service change. You still have a litre of old oil in circulation - so it might not be a bad idea every 4-5 changes to do a double change.

If your diesel oil isn't turning black its not working

    That's what I figured.
This will be the first time I've gone past 10k on the oil, I'll swap it at around 12k I think, simply a matter of waiting to buy oil.
Just curious as to if there'd be any benefit from it, I have a lot of faith in the Td5 oil filtration system

Send a PM to Fluids. He used some sort of pre flush before an oil change. He reckons that it got a shipload of black crap out.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
