You have recorded the volts while the battery is idle. Try again measuring before cranking and during cranking. That should help identify that the battery is failing under load. Then again it could be the starter!

could it be that the low temp is waxing the diesel causing it hard to start in the cold weather?

Inspect the condition of the earth strap that goes between the starter motor and the chassis.
Its towards the back of the engine down low on the passengers side.

The metal strap can wear against the chassis and cause starting problems.

Maybe even undo the chassis end connection and sand (clean) the connection up a bit, and make sure the connection is tight.

What happens if you switch your starting and aux battery around? Does the problem dissappear? If so, it is probably the battery.
