    LT95 front output flange

Can anyone confirm what is required to change the large front output flange from a Stage1 LT95 to the normal flange like the RRC and County?

I've had differing opinions as to whether its just a case of fitting the smaller flange, or whether its a bigger job involving changing the housing etc.

Are you talking about the bellhousing?
If so AFAIK you cannot get the front off without disassembly of the box. I recall that I tried to replace the front bearing (in 1985 so it was a long time ago), but the front would not come off, apparently because the LT95 1st? gear synchro fouls.

Didn't read it properly did I??

Hi Steve, the front housing is different although as far as I know you can change the flange over easy enough. I use to have a stage 1 and I would keep the larger flange and the double uni as I had lots of trouble with the front shaft and unis after resetting springs to be 2 inchs higher. Mine had an adaptor made to the fit a county front shaft. There is a lot more to uni's and drive shafts than you may think. Uni's when at any angle other than straight accelerate and de accelerate during 1 revolution of the shaft. If the 2 drive flanges aren't parrallel and the unis aren't in line the can cause vibraions. This is the reason for the double unis on the stage 1's and the angle of the alingment of the uni's in the coil sprung vehicles. Hope I didn't go too far and confuse you.

    Thanks for the info Tim
The Stage1 box is going into my county, so I'm just trying to work out whats involved in changing to the smaller flange to match the county front shaft.

Steve its dead easy to use a Range Rover flange unbolt one and put the other on nothing more.
Remember to seal up the splines though or it will leak down the splines of the output shaft Rover used a rubbery/felty type gasket I used silicone with success.

Hi Steve! Mine fitted to my stage 1 lt95 no wories at all, as did the front tail shaft out of a Range Rover, I think they even use the same seal, but I'd change it anyway while your at it. If anything I think there are 2 spline types? a corse one on the early ones and a fine on the newer.
