    alternator change

    Is there an alternative to the Lucas alternator in a series 3....IE bosh..without major bracket modification

    I am sure there would be, it might be a case of wandering around a wrecker or talking to an auto sparky while holding the Lucas one as a sample.

    You have a choice of a few there. Just keep putting alternator-ing ones in until one works

    Just make some bloody spacers

    There are left clocked Bosch alternators and right clocked ones.

    The Magna is clocked for left side mounting and old Falcons were suitable for RH side mounting.
    AFAIK the series 3 has a LH mount, so look at an 85amp Magna alternator from about and 89-93 model.
    You will have to fab up the wiring connections, and maybe extend the adjuster at the very least and probably shim with some washers to align the pulley.
