My speedo bounces all over the place to, I'm starting to think the aftermarket replacement cable is substandard. I'm on my second cable in 3 years now, I would like to measure an original to see if there's a difference in diameter of the inner. Sometimes it falls off the back of the speedo to.

I've already tested the speedo and speedo cable. No problems there. I guess the cable inner could be moving laterally within the outer but that will be tested as I reassemble after I've dropped the front shaft and changed the output shafts oil seals.

    Thanks for the suggestion John.
The rear drive shaft is disconnected. The front drive shaft is still connected. If the diff lock was stuck on, the transmission should be driving the front wheels. With the engine running, in gear and clutch out the park brake drum spins and the front wheels don't drive so the diff lock is not on.
    One thing I did notice:
With the engine running, in neutral and clutch out the park brake drum spins but not with great force. It can be stopped by applying the park brake.
Does this suggest something or is it irrelevant?

I'll remove the speedo drive on the weekend and see what that looks like.

    regards
    Mick
