    removing a starter motor for d1 300tdi

    hi guys, need some help removing a starter motor from a d1 300tdi, this is my first time doing so, so i want some infos on how to do it right and tricks to remove it. step by step instruction will be really helpful.

    10 minute job...

    Let the engine/turbo cool down.

    Disconnect the battery first at the terminals

    Disconnect the wires on the back of the starter and note where they connect back to for later. Be careful the nuts don't drop onto the ground/grass under the vehicle.

    Remove the bolts holding the starter in.

    I'm short, so standing on a milk crate may help. On a defender, I also find it easier with the bonnet off.

    It helps you see what you are doing if you remove the airline to the turbo, and the turbo to intercooler 90 deg hose. You may need to poke a long socket extension down between the manifold and motor, with handle up near alternator. I think I got to lower bolts from under the truck.
    You should only have two wires, the large cable to the battery and the push on solenoid wire, quite hard to see where to plug it back on.
