    Under car wash

I want to get under the disco and give it a good clean. Is there such a thing as a car wash where you can go and clean under the car yourself? I'm visualising a commercial joint that has some sort of pit.

And deprive you of the joy of lying in water with mud falling in your ears?
I think not. This is a rite of initiation.
What I do is park it across the gutter entrance.

Depending on how dirty it is here is another option....

I use a hose extension that usually is used to water raised pot plants etc. Its about a 1m length tube with and adjustable angle head and different spray settings. I find it good as I can move the head angle to spray the jet up into the nooks and crannies.

Oh great. Can you do mine when you're finished?

Seriously though. There are car washes that advertise this but of course mud has a tendency to stick to out of the way places that sprays can't get at.

I bought a cheap-as Chinese power washer from Mitre 10 (think Bunnings) that puts out a fair amount of pressure but not enough to strip paint off. Then expect to spend 40-50 minutes working around from corner to corner getting all those odd little angles.

Obviously a ramp is the best so you can actually get underneath but we can't all be blessed with one of those. I have seen a couple of pay-and-play type places that have things like that.

I had hoped my days of lying in the gutter on a Sunday morning were behind me.

My problem is that I am currently living at my girlfriends unit and its probably not the best place to be doing this sort of thing. The driveway is a fancy painted concrete affair which now has plenty of disco oil on it. Its one of those estates where the roads have no gutters and you can't park on the side of the road.

I can't wait till they finish building my house and I can move up the country.

Go to your local pump &/or irrigation store (I run one).

Get a click-on tap nut adapter, and a bush, so the pair will screw onto the end of a 3 or 4ft x 1/2" poly riser (1/2" BSP threaded ends).

On the other end, put an M&F 1/2" BSP 90deg threaded elbow, and then a shrub head adapter, that will allow you to fit a fan spray, pop-up sprinkler nozzle. Use a 4.6m/15ft full circle nozzle. (I use a Toro 15F full circle nozzle)

This will allow you to reach up under all the hard to get at places under your 4wd without having to crawl underneath. Reaches up under guards & engine bays, gearboxes etc. I use mine everytime I come off the beach. It's quick, simple, cheap, and it works!

Don't over pressurize the nozzle by turning the tap up too far, or the nozzle will atomize and will mist & fog, loosing washing efficiency ... or, use a pressure compensating nozzle (like I use).

If anyone wants pic's or item part numbers, let me know & i'll post some up over the weekend.

Brian, go to the girlfriends parents and use their lawn, they will let you do anything if their daughter is happy.

I use a combination of car ramps, staun masso wash wand, screwdriver, and garden hose.....this could be why I don't do mud unless I have no choice
