rubber strips to seal bonnet - for soundproofing and/or to create air seal?

Hi - just wondering if the rubber strips that seal the edges of the bonnet on a D2 are just for soundproofing or whether they may also be designed to "seal" the bonnet so that the correct venturi effect is created with air coming in through the radiator and exiting out from under the engine bay? My D1 didn't have these so I removed mine thinking they might have helped clear a bit of hot air from under the bonnet. After, after reading a bit of 'airflow theory' it's possible that LR have specifically designed some of these things to direct airflow for appropriate cooling?

I thought they were to reduce the drive by noise levels (the reason the P38A went to twin exhausts in later years).

Bit of both... Also stops hot air flowing around and into your air intake for your HEVAC...

Oh yes, And during water crossings helps keep a positive pressure in engine bay.

Scoops on the bonnet mess that theory up and its easily seen...

My engine bay was cleaner after offroading mud/water before I fitted the scoop.

    on and off topic...

Has anyone fitted seals to the defender? i'm thinking about drive by noise reduction. Was camping with KIE4 a while back and amazed at how quiet the 300tdi was compared to the td5... i'm sure seals would help....

And similarly would it screw the airflow up?
