Thrust bearing collapse. Needs engine or gearbox out to fix.![]()
i have a 92 discovery and last night was driving home from work and out of nowhere the clutch started making a weird squeling noise when applied i was about 6 k's from home so i decided to just drive it home and after about 4 k's i had no clutch at all i had to turn the car off and select a gear then match the revs the rest of the way the pedal was spongey and didnt return after applying it, i checked the fluid and it was fine so wen i got home i bled it thinking maybe it just had air in the line but still no good, the car has recently had a new clutch put in it so it cant be the clutch has anyone got any idea what it could be or had this problem before cheers guys...........hope its ok to post this in this section thanx
Thrust bearing collapse. Needs engine or gearbox out to fix.![]()
ok cheers what does that cost for a new thrust bearing and where can i get one also can i just pull the gearbox out instead of the engine?
also is it a mission to change?
Gearbox out first. Takes hours, bruised knuckles etc. Investigate and purchase parts as needed. Not for the beginner! Took me all day to do my first one, but now I am told you hang the gearbox from a sling through the top of the tunnel. Or go to the shop who put your clutch in and grumble.
I had issues after a new clutch also.
They did not machine flywheel and had terrible vibration.
At their time and expense they had to pull apart again.
I paid for maching though.
Did they use all new parts, if not under whose instuction did they only use some etc.
Time for a mechanic to do a clutch is 6-8 hours, plenty of swear words and band aids.![]()
pull the whole box, while its out drop the pressure+friction plates, rip off the flywheel and have it machined, while its off refresh the rear main seal.
do the front seal on the gearbox while its out and refresh the clutch master, slave and the flex hose.
bout 2k for drive in drive away. (parts included)
