theres a good chance ur rad is actually blocked... u car get it rodded at red dievil or any radiator place for around $100.00, i did and found that mine was 50% blocked causing over heating etc.
hope this helps
Hi,
I'm having an sporadic overheating issue when majority of the time the temp is running normal, then all of a sudden the gauge would begin to climb.
I would stop, turn off, leave for 5 min and start up. The gauge would then be back to normal. Then it can stay that way or 10min later start overheating again.
I have replaced the thermostat with the same results.
Put a heat sensor on the motor and the rad, and that has not gone above 90C.
What else could / should I be checking for?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
TIA

Thanks Glenn,
Will definately do that.
just another thing, there could be a whole heap of buggs dust etc between outside of radiator and between a/c condensor,
to clean, undo the 2x radiator support(1/2 inch bolt) , you should be able to now push radiator back towards the rear about 1-2 inches, enough to clean out with a hose and or blow it out with compressed air., youll be suprised at how much gunk gets up there, i filled a ice cream container of dried/cooked gras hoppers,
No way!!! Hmmm. Grilled grasshoppers
Thanks man. Will def check that out too...
I have just hosed out the radiator and aircon condensor, then when it was dry, blew out the 100mm of bugs etc inbetween the radiator and aircon condensor. The 2 aircon fans had died too. Now ok.
When it overheats according to the standard gauge does the heat sensor you fitted jump up accordingly?
Does the coolant gurgle?
I wouldn't have thought 90 deg C was that bad but I'd still have the radiator rodded out.
What engine are we talking about and where did you fit the sensor?
The V8 has an 88 deg C thermostat from memory.
This problem is starting to happen more often.
Driving yesterday along the highway, every 10min the temp gauge would spike, stay high for a couple of seconds and the drop back down again.
1 time it Rose all the way. I immediately pulled over. It then went back down to normal temp.
The engine does not appear to be overheating.
Short of putting an analog temp gauge on, I'm out of ideas.
Any help or ideas. Also, anyone know who I can take it to to get checked out?
Thanks
Bad earth to the gauge can cause this. Very common.
cheers, DL
