2 - The bypass solution:
[/QUOTE]
hard to believe that such a small diam pipe post-filter would make that much difference - I thought 50 mil ID was recommended for bypass pipe?

Waiting for these airbox mod pictures.....or else, you know the rulz!![]()
Could you just put a brass or plastic "T" into the crank case breather inlet of the intake hose? Then if you did put a hole in the airbox, it could be sealed up later if necessary and everything else is reversible.

I have taken a totaly different approach. I put a 12volt computer fan in the airbox after the filter blowing directly into the intake. I have wired it up to a 12v plug that I can selectively plug it in or leave it unplug.
I have randomly left it "on" over a period of 5 or 6 tankfulls and "off" over 5 or 6 tankfuls and have done this cycle a few times and monitored fuel usage. Each cycle include a 2hr road trip, and a mix of city and country driving. This is our daly driver and my wife drives it the most, and was unaware of when the fan was on or off.
When comparing fuel use between the two and taking the best economy when the fan was off and the worst economy when the fan was on I averaged atleast 1 to 2 L/100kms better with the fan on.
My vehicle is a 02 TD5, with the only mods being bullbar+winch, 50mmlift and 245/75 mud tyres.
Crash,
Sounds very interesting how about a few PIC's of the fan setup in the air box?
